Time has come to fulfil my childhood dream of owning a Porsche 928. This long-forgotten and overlooked supercar is now in my price range, especially since the price of petrol has knocked of a further tenth. But before I get too excited I thought I should check how much it would cost to insure.
I don’t like using price comparison websites, they just add their own commission onto the price. So I called a select few well-known insurance companies: Churchill, Tesco, Esure, AA and specialist Aon.
With the Challenge Churchill press campaign I expected Churchill to be the cheapest but was wrong. Churchill quoted £328. The most expensive (as expected) was AA at £485. Esure and Tesco weighed in with £260 and £281, respectively. The surprise cheapest-by-far quote was £195 from Aon insurance. This is the first time I’ve even requested a quote from Aon. Even the call length (including wait time) was the second quickest.
Looks like there is a new benchmark: Aon Specialist Car Insurance
